Spinal/Disc Therapy

The spinal disc is an amazing thing when it is functioning as it should. Each disc serves as an elastic pivot for each joint segment of the spine, providing stability and allowing for a relatively wide range of motion in all directions in the lower back and neck. However, when a disc is damaged, loses strength or elasticity with age or illness, or is displaced, it can cause a wide range of painful – and even debilitating – symptoms in the neck and/or back.

All too often people suffering from disc problems are presented with two, often rather drastic treatment alternatives; a regimen of strong, potentially addictive pain medications or a risky invasive surgery. There are other proven treatment avenues to be explored though, and one of the most effective is spinal decompression, also sometimes known as disc decompression.

Spinal/disc therapy makes use of the same spinal traction treatments that chiropractors have been making use of for years, it simply adds an extra mechanical element, in the form of a traction table or similar device.

Both traction and spinal/disc therapy are used with the end goal of relieving pain and creating an optimal healing environment for damaged discs. It’s the same goal as surgical solutions like laminectomy and microdiscectomy, but without the added healing time after surgery, or the risks that come along with every invasive surgery, no matter how minor.
